THE GAMBIA DESERVES BETTER -SULAYMAN LECTURER DARBOE

We must stop pretending that everything is fine when the ugly realities about this country speak different. The future of this country is at stake and the earlier our egoistic authorities listen to our plights and cries, the better for this country. 

It is quiet evident that Gambians have had sad memories in the past regimes but the fear of  insecurity that preoccupies the minds of innocent citizens is increasingly threatening recently. Worst of all insecurities are confined in the economic domain. Recently, this country's economy has been frustrated with intermittent incalculable escalation of costs of goods and services and each time one speaks about this realities, the only befitting answer but yet thoughtless, that the cabals and their gang could give is the Russia-Ukraine war as the main cause. If the war between Russia and Ukraine doesn't stop YOU and your family from living decently, then on no grounds must Gambians be exposed to hardship and a confused economy as we are today.

Maybe, one should remind THEM that when one's stomach is threatened, it leads to the exploration of other alternatives for survival — good or bad alternatives. Where this become the common mark of the day, the aftermath is always disastrous and could be highly consequential.

In fact, what could be more inhuman than failing to improve the basic lives of your citizens, make them savages, poor and hungry and because you know their level of poverty and suffering will not allow them resist what I  call your 'temptations', you provide them bags of rice and few hundreds dalasis from their own monies, as benevolent gifts in return for votes to continue chopping over their head? This is the unfortunate and very sad reality of the day . 

God will not come down to safe this country. We must rise, speak, and write until the leadership knows that Gambians deserve better!
