It is an established fact that many people misconstrued the real image of what national development entails. As a result, wrongly they attribute and measure a nation's development by merely putting into a probable cognitive-battle an aspect of development. How this is ascertained will undoubtedly be clear as proceed.
From a lay man point of view and some dunce intellectuals, national development is measured and attributed on the basis of the infrastructural development that is seen and felt and may probably be initiated by a government, individuals and other stakeholders. This common-established view of national development is not wrong but partially correct since it doesn't thoroughly reflect the reality about the topic. It only talks about an aspect.
Now to circumcise the real image of national development to ease better understanding, one must appreciate this quote from UN Decade Report-"National development is growth plus change in turn is social, cultural as well as economic and qualitative as well as quantitative".
From this, it is emphatically true to say that national development is not merely about the infrastructural development of a nation but scales on include the progress of a nation: economically, socially, culturally, politically and in fact intellectually. Moreover, this aspects are measured both quantitatively and qualitatively.
Economically, a nation's development is measured and checked by considering the quality and quantity of economic-based initiatives which will increase national income as well as per-capita income. Moreover, life and livelihood is highly impacted under this aspect as poverty is impoverished.
Socially, the availability of social and recreational centers to improve social cohesion as well as the acceptance of diversities for each individual's wellbeing is qualitatively and quantitatively measured. In addition, the availability of a conducive environment for social activities by the authorities equally stands out.
On the side of the infrastructural aspect; communication, medical facilities, electricity and others are inevitably captured.
Most importantly, the intellectual wellbeing of citizens within a nation is another important factor of which a nation's development can be measured. The ability of the nation to build enough schools for both the urban and rural dwellers to get educated. This ultimately is viewed to be a mean through which self-reliability could be attained.
At this juncture, it is of immense importance to appreciate that national development is broad and not merely about the infrastructural development of a country. It entails a lot as tabled.
It is very ideal to note that no development takes place without the participation of stakeholders effectively. From the Government, Citizens, Civil Society Organizations, Parastatals, and International Organizations. The output is affected if one gets weak in function. This therefore makes it the responsibility of all and sundry to stand erectly on the course. Until the development of a nation is taken as a collective responsibility, many will remain in the current state.
